The Pros and Cons of the PS4

The Pros and Cons of the PS4

The PS4 is the second best selling video game console of all time, second only behind the Playstation 2. It has a ton of games, a great design, and a polished controller. In this article, we will be taking a look at the pros and cons of the PS4.

The Pros and Cons of the PS4

Pros of the PS4:

1.) Amazing graphics:  The PS4’s hardware is composed of eight-core-64 bit AMD Jaguar processors with 8GB of RAM and AMD Radeon graphics. The result is beautiful graphics and fluid performance.

2.) Cost-effective:  You can get a PS4 for as little $200. Xbox Ones, on the other hand, generally only go as low as $350.

3.) Online play:  The PS4 has robust online multiplayer gaming, voice chat, and messaging.

4.) Exclusive Games:  Sony has a much more extensive range of exclusive titles than the Xbox One. Games like God of War, Persona 5, The Last of Us, and Bloodborne are all fantastic games that you can only play on the PS4.

5.) All-in-1 Media Center:  You can set up Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney plus all in one location.

6.) 4k resolution:  Media supports 4k resolution, though the PS4 limits gaming to 1080p. The console plugs in directly to your TV with an HDMI cable.

7.) Free Titles:  If you’re a member of PlaystationPlus, every month, you’ll have access to a fresh batch of free games. These have ranged from games like Guacamelee to The Last of Us: Remastered.

8.) Share button:  One feature of the PS4 controller is the share button. The share button allows you to capture in-game footage and screenshots and easily share them with your friends. It has revolutionized professional game streaming via YouTube and Twitch.

9.) More people playing games:  If you love multiplayer, the PS4 is the obvious choice. Millions of more people own a PS4, which means chances are your friends are already on it!

10.) VR: The PS4 offers performance comparable to a gaming PC, at a much more affordable cost.

Cons of the PS4:

1. No backward compatibility:  The biggest flaw of the PS4, is that it makes all of your PS1-PS3 games obsolete. You can’t play old games on the console. Luckily, they will rectify this when the PS5 comes out in 2020.

2. Hardware compatibility: It’s one thing for the games not to be backward compatible, but the PS4 doesn’t support any Bluetooth headsets or controllers from previous generations.

3.) Online fee:  The multiplayer is great, but you do have to pay to be a PlayStation Plus member. It is about $49.99 per year or $9.99 per month.

4.) Music limitations:  Sony tried to drive subscribers to its music streaming app, so they made it difficult to play your own music. It can’t play CDs, SACD, or MP3s, and certain apps aren’t carried.

5.) Overheating:  It isn’t guaranteed to happen, but many PS4s have issues with overheating. The good news is that it is an easy fix. Most of the time it is from a particle buildup, which you can easily clean.

6.) Limited Storage:  The base amount of storage is 500gb. If you’re an avid gamer, this isn’t enough. You will need an external HD if you want more storage.

The Verdict

In all honesty, when looking at the pros and cons of the PS4, I had trouble coming up with negative things to say. It is a top-notch gaming console and the best thing Sony has put out since the PS2.
