Protandim is a dietary supplement created by the LiveVantage Corporation. It is supposed to strengthen immunity and regulate stress responses via antioxidants. Because its effects are controversial, we’re going to take a look at the pros and cons of Protandim:

Pros of Protandim:

1.) Lowers blood pressure:  Protandim could potentially reduce the blood pressure of individuals who are at a high risk of a heart attack.  

2.) Boosts Energy:  People taking the supplement report feeling more energized and sleeping better at night.  

3.) Immune System Health:  The antioxidants and enzymes can boost your immune system and provide hormonal balance.  

4.) Entirely Natural:  The supplement is classified as a food and is composed of natural plant extracts. Take it with food daily to make sure it absorbs like any other vitamin or supplement.

5.) Cardiovascular Health:  Protandim supplements help improve cardiovascular health. It does this by suppressing intimal hyperplasia on vascular walls, promoting better blood flow.

6.) Alleviates symptoms of arthritis:  Some people who have arthritis saw marked improvements in their health. They felt less pain and experienced better mental clarity and more energy.  

7.) Stops oxidative stress:  Protandim can reduce oxidative stress by balancing out the ratio of antioxidants to free radicals in your body.  

8.) Combat other diseases:   The supplement can help prevent and combat other diseases. For example, by reducing oxidative stress, it potentially reduces your risk of getting cancer.  

9.) Anti-aging effects  By promoting cell health, it can naturally reduce the effects of aging.  

The Cons of Protandim

1.) Debate Over Its Effects:  Protandim might overexaggerate its health benefits. In 2017, the FDA sent a cease and desist to LifeVantage in regards to its false advertising.

2.) It contains caffeine: There is 1.8 mg of caffeine in Protandim. This is a small amount but can have adverse effects if you’re sensitive or allergic to caffeine. If that’s the case, other supplements might be a better bet for you.  

3.) Boosts uric acid: People that take Protandim saw a 4.9% increase of uric acid. Uric acid can lead to gout, or exacerbate it if someone already has it. Uric acid is also associated with diabetes.  

4.) Interferes with cancer drugs:  The antioxidants in cancer drugs can combine with Protandim making both ineffective.  

5.) Negative side effects:  Some people experience adverse side effects when taking the supplement. They range from rashes on the stomach aches, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and headaches.

6.) Surgery Effects:  Protandim can have adverse effects if you’re having surgery. Make sure to stop taking it at a minimum of two weeks before you head into surgery.

7.) Pregnancy and breastfeeding complications:  Doctors recommend that you speak to your doctor if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. There can be adverse effects on your baby.

8.) Diabetes: If you have diabetes, consult with your doctor. Protandim’s claims that it helps to treat diabetes are overexaggerated.  

9.) Expensive:  It is $59.99 for one month worth of Protandim, which is $720 per year. You can find generic versions for cheaper.

The Verdict?

When looking at the pros and cons of Protandim, it is hard to lean either way. If the health effects work even close to what they claim, then its a no brainer. Just be careful and make sure you have all your bases covered before you start taking it.
